1.Slab Backsplashes

We are absolutely obsessing over this trend! Nothing says luxury and class like beautiful slabs of quartz or marble running seamlessly up your walls as a stunning backsplash. If you’re really looking to show off the veining and uniqueness of the slabs you’ve chosen, you can even use the same slab for your countertops, creating an incredible visual effect in your kitchen!

2. Color Pops

If you haven’t heard yet, the color of the year has officially been dubbed Classic Blue, and we expect to see this everywhere in 2020. From cabinets, countertops, and  appliances, to wall color, bright vibrant pops of color are definitely going to be seen more often this coming year, as opposed to the muted neutral tones that have been commonplace in the last few years. Make 2020 the year to be bold in your color choices!

3. Warm Finishes

While we do expect to see a rise in vibrant color pops this year, we are also seeing warm wood tones trending as well. While wood can sometimes feel dates, by using slab style or modern shaker style cabinetry, coupled with fresh quartz countertops, wood can feel just as modern as lacquer cabinetry! Natural woods lend warmth and natural beauty to any space it is in, creating a feeling of substance, longevity, and comfort.

Pro Tip: Consider combining these warm wood tones with a pop of color like kelly green or navy blue to create balance in a contemporary kitchen!

4. Open Shelving

We spoke a lot about open shelving in our Farmhouse Kitchen blog, and it looks like we were ahead of the curve! Open shelving is a great way to show off and store everyday dishes and glassware, but this year we are seeing the trend go further by showcasing antique cookware, vintage glasses, and copper pots. This unique storage method is a great way to bring charm to and show of your personality in your kitchen by combining classic and modern aesthetics!

5. Freestanding Tubs

No matter how you look at it, freestanding tubs are a beautiful addition to a bathroom. They are timeless and elegant, and can fit pretty much any bathroom style. From traditional copper soaking tubs, to stunning modern stone resin tubs this beautiful feature not only looks amazing, but can also increase the value of your home!

6. Modern Lighting

One of the easiest and best ways to quickly and effectively update the feel of your bathroom is to introduce some good-looking modern lighting. The trend this year is towards linear, minimalist lighting allowing other elements to take center-stage. Backlit mirrors, bright linear wall lights, and rounded sconces are all going to be the hottest fixtures this year!

7. Accent Walls

Whether it is patterned wallpaper textured tiles, a bright colored wall, or a wall of plants accent walls are in. There are endless possibilities when it comes to this feature in your bathroom and you can make it as unique as you are. Accent walls create a visual focal point for the room and are generally placed behind bathtubs, showers, or vanities! Check out our Bathroom Remodeling Page for inspiration!

8. Matte Fixtures

Probably our favorite bathroom trend for 2020, matte fixtures continue to climb in popularity! We just spoke about this in our blog “8 Bathroom Design Trends We Love”, and we are mentioning it again because the trend absolutely ON FIRE right now! Sleek and modern, matte finishes can be found in a growing array of colors including black, gold, brass, and silver. Matte fixtures are stain and scratch resistant, and are less prone to show fingerprints or dirt, so in addition to a striking visual impact, you are also getting easy clean up!

9. Bold Monochromes

This is the year of color; in the kitchen, in the bathroom, in the living room. Gone is the yesteryear of beige on beige, as we harken in the year of the bold jewel tones in the living space. Cobalt Blues, vibrant greens, succulent purples can all be incredible choices when looking to create a monochrome living space. Adding in hints of contrasting color or even metallic details can break the space up just enough to give it some visual breathing room. These spaces are full of personality and a quirky elegance!

10. Patterned Everything

Patterns are everywhere this year. From wallpaper to textiles, you can’t go wrong with bringing in flare with a funky pattern. Some designers lean towards a single pattern throughout the room, while others swear by pattern clashing. It’s all really in the eye of the beholder, but patterns have a way of expressing individuality and style that solid color sometimes cannot.

11. Modern Rustic Chic

We are loving the creativity of the Countryside Chic style! By combining classic patterns and antique pieces with modern color and whimsy, this style takes the potentially overdone farmhouse style and makes it fresh and modern. Materials such as natural woods, soothing tones, and plush furniture rule this style creating a relaxing, friendly environment, while fresh finds such as a handwoven rug can bring the space some contemporary style. Play with pattern and texture here to create something truly personal and unique!

12. Sustainable Materials

We’ve mentioned sustainability on this blog a few times, and the trend continues to become more and more relevant. Creating materials that can be broken down naturally when we are done using them, reusing or repurposing items from others, and overall reducing consumption is becoming an ever growing world phenomena. Many homeowners and designers are thinking more ethically about what they bring into their homes, opting for refurbished pieces, real plants, and sustainable fabrics. Design wise this means introducing warm, earthy tones and materials, and checking the sourcing of materials as you look into buying them!
