Major Remodels:

We know that the idea of adding on major renovations to the already busy time leading up to the holidays may seem insane, but hear us out! Getting these major upgrades complete before the onslaught of holiday guests can not only give you peace of mind that everything is working properly, and no unexpected surprises will arise when your home is full of guests, but at the same time give you something beautiful to show off to a house full of people. We won’t say that getting your kitchen or bathroom remodeled is a small task, but with good planning and the help of our talented team, you can have a shiny new space ready that is just as ready for the holidays as you are (or at least as ready as you pretend to be)!

Kitchen:

The kitchen is one place that gets constant use during the holidays. From cooking huge meals for extended family to baking cookies with the kids, it’s the heart of the house at anytime of the year but most decidedly so during the holidays. Renovating a kitchen at any time can be an overwhelming idea, but renovating a kitchen in time for the holidays can make even the bravest home remodeler want to run for the hills. However, there are definite benefits to getting your kitchen remodeled before the holidays. If you begin your remodel early enough in advance you have the wonderful benefit of getting to know the space and have time to adjust and acclimate to your new kitchen before the hoards of family and friends come around to celebrate! It’s also a great gift to give to yourself and the people you live with. Rather than splurging on a pricey item this year, consider investing in your home by remodeling key selling points (eg: your kitchen and your bathrooms). Not only will you be able to enjoy the beautiful new space as you live there, but at the same time you are also upping your home’s resale value by investing in newer appliances, stone, cabinets, etc! If you’re looking to get a jump start on your kitchen remodel, reachout to our talented team to schedule an in-home consultation.

Guest Bathroom:

If you’re planning on having a home full of people but have been putting off that guest bathroom renovation, this is definitely the perfect time to jump into this project. If you have the space to add in a guest bathroom, it can really give your guests the extra bit of privacy they co be looking for. Having a secondary bathroom also allows for greater flexibility with scheduling. With the introduction of a second bathroom, even a half bathroom, it prevents all the residents of one home competing for one space. This then can help once the holidays are over as well. For people with children, having a second bathroom is a great idea! Not only does it keep your toiletry items you may want children avoiding conveniently separated, but it also allows children and parents to get ready for the day or night at the same time! Adding a guest bathroom also helps to increase the overall value of your home

Minor Remodels:

Not all renovations need to be major! Don’t let the idea of changing things up be daunting. The simplest adjustments can breathe new life into your home, and if you are pressed for time or budget (or both!) these easy modifications can be an easy way to have your apartment looking fresh for your holiday guests!

New Backsplash

One of the simplest ways to give your kitchen a new vibe is simply to change the backsplash. If you’re not looking to go all in on a remodel, you can definitely make a kitchen look updated by removing the outdated title behind your counter tops and replacing it with something innovative and contemporary. One of the hottest trends this season is bringing the tile or stone that you have on your backsplash all the way up to the ceilings! This is a great way to make tight NYC kitchens feel tall and spacious. We are also currently loving the trend of ditching subway tiles for more unique artisan made tiles in fun shapes. Moroccan fish scale tiles, hexagonal tiles, and skinny rectangular tiles in varying lengths are some of our favorite ideas for unique personalized backsplashes this season.

Refinish the floors

Another great way to make your home feel shiny and new is to refinish your floors. This process can be definitely feel more daunting than other projects because you have to move out all the furniture in the room(s) that you are looking to refinish the floors in. Generally the entire process takes between 3 and 5 days, though there are two ways you can go about refinishing your floor. You can either re-coat it, which will take significantly less time to complete than a full refinish, or you can completely sand down the floors and fully refinish them. Both processes will require you to fill deep scratches and rough up the entire surface of the floor, however a full refinish will require you to fully sand down the floors. It’s important to note that when dealing with hardwood flooring, you can sand down the floor multiple times before the integrity of the wood starts to become compromised, with laminate wood flooring however you can only sand down the finish once or twice before exposing the plywood underneath. Whether you choose a dark finish or a light finish, redoing your floors can give your home a beautiful new home glow and is also a great way to add value to your home!

Update Existing Living Spaces

One of the biggest issues during the holidays is trying to figure out where to sleep numerous out of town guests. One of the easiest ways to get your home ready for holiday guests is to simply update existing spaces. This is the perfect time to finally finish that unfinished basement, or convert the storage room/office that you’ve been meaning to flip and turn into a guest room. But there are ways to get creative with this too! Nooks in a home that would make good reading benches are great places show a little TLC and make into temporary sleeping quarters for small children. Murphy beds are a great way to incorporate extra sleeping space, while at the same time being able to quickly and easily lift up the bed to store it  away into the walls!
